The 20s are just such a beautiful time, you’re young, fun, and have the world ahead. That’s what everybody tells you, and it’s the truth but there are some things you need to know in your early 20s.
Your 20s are the part of your life when you get more involved in fashion, skincare, romance, and slowly all of a sudden you became a young adult.
If you’re skincare and beauty-obsessed, just like me, your 20s will become your experimental years on yourself. You’ll try a bunch of hair and face mask and will make some great choises and other not so great.
That’s why I bring you to hear 6 things you should definitely know in your early 20s. And let me tell you, in the middle of all the precious chaos of that age, everything gets better, especially you! Trust me!
1. Stop doing a homemade face mask and “Go to a Dermatologist”.
A face mask made with naturals ingredients is doing nothing to your skin. And I know that you’ve noticed your face smoother after removing one of those masks, but trust me, they are doing something on the surface of your skin, and the results won’t last.
Placing an appointment with a dermatologist may sound expensive, but it’s not that much, you can ask for information about the cost, and start to save up some money, in the meantime with all this digital information era go and follow some dermatologists on social media, they post really interesting content and you’ll end up knowing so much about skincare and could even start to do some changes in your skincare routine.
An example is a well-known dermatologist Dr. Shereene Idriss, she has a web page Pillowtalkderm where you can know more about her and see recommendations for moisturizer, serums, eye creams, and so on, some of those products are not that expensive and she even links pages where to buy them.
I guarantee you won’t ever regret a visit with a dermatologist.
2. Stop putting food on your hair “Use hair a mask”.
Another big thing you need to know in your early 20s, this one is super related to the one before and it’s another thing you can learn with a dermatologist, some of them are also Trichologist who is a specialist that focus on the study of diseases or problems related to the hair and scalp, as well as their treatments.
So, what’s up with those masks made with Eggs, avocado, other fruits, or some oils? … well they may be good for other things, eating them for an instance, but they won’t work on your hair or scalp. Why is that?
Let’s take the coconut as an example, Coconut oil has been said to super hydrates your hair, contribute to eliminate dandruff off your scalp, help to prevent hair loss, etc. And although coconut has all these beneficial properties, the coconut oil itself, it’s not in the proper vehicle to give those beneficial properties to your hair, because it was meant for another purpose.
On the other hand, if we think of a Coconut hair mask that was made in a laboratory, it was designed with a specific formulation in order to extract all good properties of the coconut and put them in the right vehicle so that it could address a specific problem.
Putting Coconut oil directly on your hair could cause a protein build-up that prevents your hair from all the moisture it needs, damaging your hair by making it drier and less elastic in the long-term.
So don’t waste your time watching how to make a homemade mask with ingredients you already have at home. Simply go to a drugstore or any supermarket and buy one, the key it’s not only to buy a super expensive one but to be consistent when you use it to take care of your hair, it will thank you later.
3. Work-out!
Yes! Do it. It will improve your health and your mood. If you get the habit of working out at least three days a week for 30 minutes each you’ll be raising your lifestyle so much, without mentioning all the health benefits it will bring you.
Try it for at least a week, don’t focus on how to achieve that great beach-body but on the feeling of health and well-being that comes after a routine, the beach-body will come after ;).
4. Wear SPF Daily
I don’t like to see the sun as an evil enemy to the skin, but too much sun it’s the cause of most of the pimples and spots on our face, wearing SPF daily it’s the number one way to prevent it. No matter how great our morning or night routine is, the most important thing it’s to use SPF.
I’ve heard that in your 20s you’ve got the skin you inherit, at your 40s the skin you’ve invested, and at 60s the skin you deserve. So invest in your skin now so you can enjoy the benefits later.
5. Vaseline in your hands and feet
Another hack gave by dermatologists and an important tip to know in your early 20s.
Maybe you have heard that there’s nothing like a good walk on the sand for a great pedicure look on your feet, and it’s true it helps. But Vaseline it’s the real trick.
If you get the habit of putting Vaseline in your feet daily it moisturizes them and helps you eliminate the dryness, for a fresh recent pedicure done look.
Also putting it in your hands, especially in your nails will leave you with moisturized cuticles that won’t have to remove when you get a manicure.
It’s a good trick you’ll love once you see the results.
6. Stop spending your money on every fashion trend you see
And this is a tip that will tremendously help you save a lot of money. You definetely need to know this in your early 20s and then take action!
Understand that most of the things we see in the fashion industry are advertisements specially design to make you spend money. So How can you be on-trend but still save some money?
Buy wisely, how?… Analyze the trend, let’s say it’s a pair of shoes that you want but don’t need. Ask yourself:
- Are they worth the money?
- Where can I use them? Can I go to the office with them and also hang out with some friends?
- What can I wear it with? Do they go with pants and skirts?
- They only go with jeans and I only have a pair of jeans, will I use it much then?
- if they are too dramatic that you’ll only use them to hang out, are they really practical for me right now?
- When I buy it, I’ll still have some money left to save up?
If after all, you’ve got to the conclusion that they’ll be useful, then it will be a wise decision.
7. Laser Hair Removal
(This is a save up proyect)
The priciest one of things you need to know in your early 20s, that’s why I leave it last. I know laser hair removal can be really expensive, but imagine you could freely plan a beach getaway without having to worry about shaving your armpits, legs, and bikini area, wouldn’t it be great?
On top of those worries, we have to struggle with some darkness caused by the razor.
Say goodbye to all of that with laser hair removal. Of course, it’s not some magical thing. It reduces hair growth and once you’ve finished your sessions (that are about 8 to 10 depending on your hair type) you have to make an annual retouch session.
That is something worth saving for!
Your early 20 are gorgeous, enjoy them greatly and wisely!
